Our final destination in Vietnam was Ho Chi Minh City. We stayed in a lovely apartment perfect for playing Skyrim, Egyptian rat slap and doodling on the balcony. It was in the newly developed region in district one with a view of the Saigon river.
Our apartment also happened to be right next to the Miss Charm competition, which at first felt kind of fun and exciting. That excitement wore off eventually when stage lights started flashing directly into our apartment at 4.00am. At that point, I was very much over it. For the record, I later googled it and the Philippines won.
In the city we ate many delicious meals, enjoyed a sunset boat trip down the Saigon river, explored shopping malls and climbed to the top of the tallest building in the city, Landmark 81.
One evening stands out in particular. Bryson took me out to see all the Christmas lights (they were so pretty) and to eat an absolutely delicious meal at a super fancy hotel!
Another one of the highlights of our time here was getting out of the city and exploring the Mekong delta. We went on a peaceful boat ride, visited a bee farm, a coconut candy workshop and even attended a mini private flute concert. Bryson particularly enjoyed the bee farm and is getting lots of ideas about what his back garden honey production will look like in the future. I enjoyed cycling around the various villages and taking in the scenery.
We also visited the Cu Chi Tunnels, which were fascinating and deeply uncomfortable all at once (emotionally and for my back). The history is incredible, but the heat and tight spaces were intense. We attempted part of the tunnels but quickly realised the longer route was not for us. I was secretly so relieved when Bryson suggested leaving early. I was so sweaty!
Overall, we loved Ho Chi Minh city and it was a great way to end what has been a wonderful month in Vietnam.
